Experience
I went to the University of California-Los Angeles, where I received a B.A. in English. I attended graduate school at California State University-Northridge, where I earned my graduate degree in Literature. After school, I began working at Berlitz Language Center as a Spanish and ELL/ESL teacher. I worked with students of all ages, both one-on-one and in groups. As a result of working with people of all backgrounds, ages, and traditions, I've come up with many different strategies for communicating with and reaching students. I make sure to be responsive and patient, in order to build students' skills in analysis, critique, and writing. I design all of my lesson plans with this in mind, and make sure I am as thorough as possible. Being empathetic helps me to identify and respond to student strengths and areas where students could improve. I try to create learning environments that are entertaining and stimulating, as much as they are rigorous. I'm particularly experienced at helping students with their writing and editing skills. I have helped them with essay-writing as well as job and application materials, etc. I worked with both small and large classes as an adjunct professor at ITT Technical Institute, where I taught Gen. Ed. and Composition courses. I also worked as Associate Dean while there. I enjoy independent films, spending time with my family, dance fitness, going to museums, and traveling.
